Green Schools Presentations

An environmental education program of Art From Scrap

Helping students understand how environmental topics are interconnected
and how they can improve the environment

The following in-class lessons and field trips are available for public and private schools, community groups, and camps.

 


 

 

SANTA BARBARA SOUTH COUNTY

Environmental Education Series

Green Kids Series
Grades 3-6

This series includes field trips to Art From Scrap and the Recycling Center, in-class lessons on Natural Resources, Composting and Gardening, and a lesson on Water Quality, either in-class or at the Watershed Resource Center. Students participate in hands-on activities, games, field trips, and environmental stewardship projects.

 

 

Creek Kids Series
Grades 4-6

This series consists of two in-class lessons and a half-day
field trip to a local creek and the Watershed Resource Center. Students participate in hands-on activities to learn about watersheds, where water goes, the physical and biological components of creeks, the dangers of plastic in the ocean, sources of water pollution, solutions to pollution, and what students can do to improve water quality.

 

 

 

Environmental Field Trips

Art From Scrap
Grades K-12

Students participate in an Environmental Education presentation focusing on Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Composting and a hands-on Art Workshop offering students a creative exploration experience using recycled materials.

 

 

Recycling Center
Grades 2 and up

See a recycling center in action! Students learn what materials can be recycled, how they are recycled and what happens to them after they are recycled. Schedule Recycling Center tours as an addition to the
Art From Scrap field trip.

 

 

Watershed Resource Center
Grades K-12

Students learn about local watersheds and how to protect them. Lessons focus on understanding watersheds, where water goes, sources of water pollution, solutions to pollution, and the effect of plastic debris on ocean food webs. Activities include using hands-on models to understand watersheds and how pollutants travel, and taking action with a beach clean-up.

IN-CLASS PRESENTATIONS

School Gardens and Composting
All Grades


Hands-on Gardening and Composting Lessons are tailored to the needs of your class and include various aspects of organic gardening and composting. A garden educator can teach your class how to prepare garden beds, plant seeds or set up a worm compost bin.

Program Fees: Many of these programs are free to Santa Barbara County schools. Bus stipends are available for some field trips.

IN-CLASS PRESENTATIONS

Art From Scrap Waste Reduction
Grades K-6

Six classes per day at a school site will participate in an Environmental Education presentation focusing on Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Natural Resources,
Plus a hands-on Art Workshop offering students a creative exploration experience using recycled materials.

Composting
Grades K-6

Six classes per day at your school will participate in Composting Education activities.

Students will . . . . . Explore the composting cycle, Investigate the benefits of composting, Learn the ingredients for a compost pile, Create a Worm Hotel

Creek Kids Series
Grades 4-6 Orcutt Schools

This series consists of two in-class lessons and a
field trip to the Cabrillo High School Aquarium for selected classes.

Students learn about water as a natural resource, where their water comes from and where it goes, the water cycle, groundwater, water pollution and how students can protect the water quality where they live.

Program Fees: These programs are free to Santa Barbara County schools.
